Dragon Age: The Veilguard dropped its first trailer during the Xbox Showcase 2024 event, and fans are really not happy.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard, previously known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, released its first trailer during the Xbox Showcase, and it has not been well-received. Despite what sounds like quite a tumultuous development cycle, Bioware has missed the mark with its initial promotional material for its upcoming RPG. Of course, it remains to be seen how well the game does on launch, but right now, fans are enjoying mocking it more than they are getting hyped.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Trailer Massively Disliked By Fans
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been absolutely torn apart by fans, especially on YouTube, thanks to its new trailer. Currently, the trailer sits at 1.1 million views, with upwards of 150,000 dislikes compared to around 30,000 likes. It’s a pretty stark contrast that continues Bioware’s unfortunate streak of negative press after Anthem, Mass Effect: Andromeda, and even Dragon Age: Inquisition.
The hatred seems threefold, with the game’s new art direction and overall tone being the biggest issues. Of course, that bizarre cover of David Bowie’s Heroes isn’t doing the game any favors. These kinds of CG trailers aren’t indicative of the whole experience. However, they do set the general tone of what players can expect. With its Marvel-esque team-up montage, it’s hard not to feel that the darker roots of Bioware’s iconic series have completely disappeared. Perhaps the best comment on YouTube is, “What are we some kind of dragon suicide squad?”. Sums the whole thing up pretty nicely.
It remains to be seen what the actual game will be like. It doesn’t have an official release date as of yet, but is due in 2024. We’re going to get a deep dive soon, and there’s some love for this new direction amongst all the hate. It’s certainly not a lost cause; after all, it’s just a CG trailer.
