Wizards of the Coast has launched prerelease events for the latest Magic: The Gathering set, Modern Horizons 3, today. Players can expect to see some fantastic, powerful new and reprinted cards join the Modern format where everyone can enjoy collecting them with a nostalgic eye.

When Is Magic: The Gathering Modern Horizons 3 Releasing?

Magic: The Gathering’s Modern Horizons 3 will be released on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, on MTG Arena and on Friday, June 14, 2024, on tabletop. Players will be able to purchase from a large selection of options, such as Play Boosters, Collectors Boosters, Commander Decks, Collector’s Edition Commander Decks, Prerelease Packs, Bundles, and Gift Edition Bundles. All of these are also currently available to pre-order.

Players will enjoy a nostalgic feel in Modern Horizons 3. Cards will include a retro frame treatment in honor of previous card designs in Magic’s history. However, borderless profile treatment will also return, including frame break treatment with striking and vibrant art. Below, we have listed what to expect from Modern Horizons 3.

The Eldrazi Return

Modern Horizons 3 will include the retelling of the Eldrazi—a story of unfathomable horrors that follows the evil interdimensional Eldrazi titans and their plane-devouring pursuits. Players can expect to see new reimagined versions of the god-like beings, where they’ll be able to unleash Emrakul, Ulamog, and Kozilek. These will be featured in physical forms across foil-etched or serialized borderless concept treatments exclusive to Collector Boosters.

It should be noted that players should check product packaging details before purchasing. The serialized Modern Horizons 3 cards are in English only and are available in Magic: The Gathering’s Modern Horizons 3 Collector Boosters of any language. However, non-serialized Modern Horizons 3 cards are mechanically identical to serialized variants.

Planewalker’s Spark

The heroic and villainous planeswalkers, from Ajani Goldmane and Ral Zarek to Grist and Sorin Markov, are also returning in Magic: The Gathering’s Modern Horizons 3. There will be a set in the new double-faced cards (DFC) that will show players how five fan favorites became Planeswalkers.

Modern’s Never Been More Marvellous

Modern Horizons 3 offers players the opportunity to create new solid decks and revitalize old favorites. These new cards are designed to draft and update the competitive Modern format. However, players will be able to customize and optimize their mana base thanks to the return of allied fetch lands. These customizations are available in four treatments: regular frame, extended-art frame, retro frame, and borderless frame. These options allow players to immerse themselves further and enjoy Modern Horizons 3.

Those looking to reinvent their competitive strategies with aether will be happy to know that the energy mechanic is making a return. This returning mechanic uses energy counters to pay the cost of activated or triggered abilities. Modern Horizons 3 also has the addition of a bonus sheet. This means a range of reprints of classic cards has been made, bringing these selected cards to the Modern format for the first time.
