Live-Action Like A Dragon Series is Coming to Amazon Prime

The popular SEGA franchise, Like a Dragon, is getting the live-action TV series treatment on Amazon Prime with Like a Dragon: Yakuza.

The Yakuza series, now known as Like a Dragon, is a crime saga game series by SEGA that has spanned over 20 years. It mainly tells the story of tough Yakuza enforcer Kazuma Kiryu throughout his years working for the Tojo Clan. Fortunately, this epic saga is being brought to the small screen, as Amazon has announced that it’s taking a crack at turning it into a live-action series.

A Like a Dragon TV Series Is Punching Its Way Onto Amazon Prime

Announced in a press release, the live-action adaptation is a TV series called Like a Dragon: Yakuza and it will premiere on Amazon Prime. The show features six episodes, which will be released in two separate segments. The show is an adaptation of the first Yakuza title and is going to take place in two time periods, 1995 and 2005. It details the earlier life of Kiryu and his childhood friends. Additionally, it will show the events that shaped him into the Dragon of Dojima.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza is directed by Masaharu Take. He is best known for his works, such as 100 Yen Love and The Naked Director. Ryoma Takeuchi portrays the iconic protagonist, Kazuma Kiryu. Takeuchi has portrayed popular roles in works such as Kamen Rider Drive, Love You As The World Ends, and the Japanese dub for Tim Goodman in the Detective Pikachu movie.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza Punches Its Way Onto Amazon Prime This October

The first section of episodes will be released on Friday, October 25, 2024. This will be followed by the final three episodes on Friday, November 1, 2024. This gives viewers a week to get through the first batch before the second comes out. Because there are only six episodes, that is a very doable task. Additionally, the show’s release being in just over four months is incredible, as viewers won’t have to wait that long. In addition to releasing on Amazon Prime, the show will be available in dubs for over 30 other languages.

Whether we will see all of the first Yakuza story remains to be seen. However, as the TV series is an adaptation, it is possible that changes will be made. Many live-action adaptations of video games have been popular lately. The Fallout TV show is already getting a second season, as is the popular The Last of Us show. We don’t have to wait a long time to see Kiryu’s adventure brought to life. It is going to be exciting to see if the action-packed craziness that SEGA brought with the games can be fulfilled on television screens around the world.
