Sony is joining in on the mobile gaming action by developing its own brand-new platform for free-to-play PlayStation-branded games.
Mobile gaming has taken the world by storm for many years, to the point of official collaborations with other games. Games such as Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Balatro have joined in on the mobile gaming market, and it doesn’t seem to stop there. Now, it seems like PlayStation wants in on the action by dipping its toes into the free-to-play mobile gaming market.
When Will PlayStation Launch Its Mobile Platform?
There is currently no launch date for PlayStation’s upcoming mobile platform due to no official mention of it from PlayStation. As TweakTown spotted, the platform is currently in development as a new job listing from PlayStation Global went live. The listing seems to suggest that PlayStation wants to expand further and enter the mobile gaming market. The position is specifically titled ‘Mobile Platform Architect’ and features the description below.
“PlayStation Studios Mobile is seeking an experienced software engineer to design PlayStation’s platform for developing, publishing, and operating free-to-play mobile games. An individual in this role will spearhead the design and implementation of this platform; work in partnership with internal teams to connect mobile games to PlayStation services; and ensure that all mobile games meet PlayStation’s quality standards.”
Although the job listing does not explicitly mention whether this is a new mobile platform from PlayStation, the wording of the listing suggests it may be. If PlayStation does bring out its own mobile gaming platform for users, it may be a while before it releases. However, we won’t know for sure what exactly is happening until we hear something official from PlayStation.
What PlayStation Games Are Coming To Mobile?
There is currently no confirmed information about which PlayStation games will be coming to the upcoming mobile platform. As there has not been an official announcement, it’s hard to decipher what to expect. However, we will likely see new, mobile-specific, and older titles come to the PlayStation mobile platform as PlayStation will have a massive pool of content they can pull from.
