XDefiant: All Game Modes Explained

XDefiant features a number of unique and familiar game modes for players to try. Here is what each of the game modes entails.

Players are being spoiled with the number of maps there are in XDefiant. Fortunately, there are plenty of modes to try out on each map. While many of these modes are familiar, some put a unique spin on a tried-and-tested formula. Below, we explain the difference between Arcade and Progression modes in XDefiant, as well as what each of the game modes entails.

What Is the Difference Between Arcade and Progression Modes in XDefiant?

Arcade modes in XDefiant are your standard Call of Duty-esque game modes. These take place in smaller maps called Arcade maps, which feature three vertical/horizontal lanes for players to fight across, and typically involve just getting the most kills. The Arcade modes in XDefiant include Domination, Occupy, and Hot Shot.

Progression modes, on the other hand, are more linear and team-based. These take place across Progression maps and require one team to defend while the other attacks. They are segmented into different sections, with a new section of the map unlocking the further the attacking team progresses. There are currently two Progression modes called Zone Control and Escort.

Domination

Domination in XDefiant sees teams compete to capture and control three different points across a map. When a team captures a point, they’ll start earning points, with one point per area controlled. If a team controls all three points, the opposing team cannot earn any points. The first team to reach the score limit, or with the most points by the end of the match, wins.

Occupy

This mode has similar characteristics to Domination, with a few key differences. Occupy has a rotating point that teams must capture to gain points. The goal is the same as Domination, but the one area shifting around the map keeps players on their toes. XDefiant’s Occupy is similar to Hardpoint from Call of Duty.

Hot Shot

In Hot Shot, killed players will drop a token. If the opposing team picks up that token, they’ll get a point. However, if a player picks up their dead teammate’s token, they’ll deny the opposing team the point. It’s basically Kill Confirmed from Call of Duty. If a player grabs more tokens than others, they become known as the “Hot Shot”, dealing increased damage and moving faster, until defeated.

Zone Control

Zone Control is similiar to Domination and Occupy by having players capture moving zones. In this mode, the two teams are split between Attackers and Defenders. The team on the offensive must capture a point and, after doing so, will unlock the next point. This process repeats until all five areas are captured. The goal of the defensive team is to prevent this by holding a point until the timer ends.

Escort

In Escort, the attacking team must push a payload from one side of the map to the other. Scattered along the payload’s path are checkpoints that add time to the match and allow for extended opportunities to get the payload where it needs to go. Players on the defending team must keep the payload from being moved until the match clock runs out.

Are There More Modes Coming to XDefiant?

Yes, there are more modes coming to XDefiant in future Seasonal updates. While Ubisoft is yet to announce these modes or when they are coming, it has confirmed that new Arena and Progression modes will be added in future Seasons. Additionally, a Ranked mode is coming in a future Season.
