Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive are set to release Cities: Skylines 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed original title. The official announcement trailer, which debuted in March, confirmed the game’s planned release later this year.
Despite a lack of extensive details regarding the game, there have already been rumours circulating that the developer has managed to debunk, including whether or not the game contains multiplayer.
Cities: Skylines II is an immersive simulation game that challenges players to construct their dream metropolis with unprecedented levels of realism. The game’s living world constantly changes, presenting challenges and rewards that require strategic planning and imaginative prowess.
With infinite possibilities for construction, players must manage the complexities of running a city while satisfying the ever-evolving needs of their populace. The game’s breathtaking graphics create a stunning world that brings the player’s city to life.
Colossal Order recently took to Twitter to provide some insight into the upcoming sequel to Cities: Skylines. Amidst a sea of rumours regarding the game’s development, the developer confirmed that Cities: Skylines 2 is indeed built in Unity, just like its predecessor.
Furthermore, the developer addressed the compatibility of Cities: Skylines II with mods and assets from the original game, stating that existing Steam Workshop content would need to be revamped or modified to work with the new game. They also addressed the possibility of adding multiplayer functionality to the game, indicating that it would require a significant investment of time and resources and could detract from the core single-player experience that they are trying to create.
While the response to the multiplayer question was not a definitive “no,” it is likely that the answer is effectively negative, which may be a positive development given the historical difficulties experienced by other city-building games that tried to incorporate multiplayer.
You can expect more about Cities: Skylines II as its release date in 2023 approaches.
