When Does Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Take Place?

The main game of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora takes place in 2169. This is fifteen years after the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains, which happened in 2154 during the first Avatar film. It is also set 1 year before Way of the Water, which mostly takes place in 2170. This indicates that the Avatar films are canonically linked to this game.

However, the start of the game and introduction to your Na’vi’s story takes place much before 2169. You’ll begin as a Na’vi child taken in by the RDA, brought up to learn their ways. Sometime later, your Na’vi is attacked by the RDA and put into Cryosleep during the Battle of the Hallelujah Mountains. 15 years pass, after which you’re woken up, and the main game truly begins. This means the introduction briefly takes place during the events of the end of the first film in 2154.

Despite being set close to The Way of Water, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora takes place in the Western Frontier. This location has not yet been explored in the Avatar films. This means that you won’t see any familiar characters, ensuring that both the game and the films remain mostly separate entities while still being connected thematically.
