Bethesda surprised many with an update on The Elder Scrolls 6 development; however, it is only very minor, and you shouldn’t get your hopes up.
As March 25, 2024, marked the 30th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda celebrated by sharing some news about strong titles, like Oblivion and Skyrim, that honored the series. In 2019, Bethesda revealed the development of the sixth installment in the RPG franchise, and while it isn’t much, they have provided a minor update on how development is coming along.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Update From Bethesda
Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development currently, and they are playing early builds of the game. The game’s development seems to have picked up, as there are builds already.
The release of the latest Bethesda title, Starfield, marks the shift of full-fledged development to The Elder Scrolls 6. Although part of the team may focus on Shattered Space, the DLC for Starfield, many members have likely transitioned to the upcoming project. Moreover, Phil Spencer revealed during the FTC vs. Microsoft trial hearings that the same team was working on both titles.
When Could The Elder Scrolls 6 Release?
As development is only just kicking into drive, it is likely that we will not see The Elder Scrolls 6 until 2028-2029. As the gaming industry evolves, many AAA titles from varying companies have taken longer to develop than in years past.
For example, the development of GTA 6 was announced to have begun shortly after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2. After the release of its trailer back in December of 2023, which tags a launch year, it’s safe to assume that the title development cycle has risen to around five years or so. As the development team for The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield is tackling that, it will be a while before we hear more details. However, even a minor update like this is enormous, as it shows fans that the game is still officially in the pipeline.
