WoW Shadowlands Pre-Patch – What is New?

The WoW Shadowlands pre-patch has been out for around 2 weeks and there are heaps of new changes.

Cosmetic Changes

The Shadowlands pre-patch has introduced new character customizations, and they are awesome. Other games have come under fire lately, most notably The Sims, for not being inclusive. So it is nice to see they have included countless new skin tones so that people are able to design their character however they want.

Some other notable customization changes are:

  • The ability to have 2 different eye colors
  • Different earing combinations
  • Bracelets and necklaces options
  • Tattoo options
  • Bodypaint
  • Ear Length
  • New hair and colors options
  • And much more!

New Leveling Experience

The level squish was another super cool feature. This means every character had their level divided by roughly 2.4. The new level cap has been changed level 50, increasing to 60 when Shadowlands arrives.

The next biggest thing is Chromie Time. This allows you to play through one expansion of your choice and completing this expansion will take you from level 10-50. This has been so much fun. Some expansions are better than others in terms of an optimal leveling experience, and this comes down to a few things:

  • Quest density
  • Bonus objectives
  • Bonus treasures
  • How forgiving the zones are without flying

Right now the clear winner for leveling is Warlord of Draenor. It is, by far, the quickest with the number of treasures, bonus quests, quest density, and how well each quest flows to the next.

Wrapping it up

Overall, the Shadowlands Pre-Patch has added features which only extend the amount of gameplay in World of Warcraft. I personally have been playing certain races in the game to unlock different heritage armor.

Sometimes it is exhausting playing Warlords of Draenor quests over and over, but there is still something fun about it. I like not having to hop between expansions, and having consistency to the leveling experience is something I think has been missing in WoW.

There has been a little bit of backlash regarding how simple the Exile’s Reach starting zone is, but I truly enjoy it. I look forward to the upcoming extra pre-patch story and the plague.
