The Remake has had numerous setbacks, and in May 2022, the game moved from Ubisoft Prune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal. Fortunately, the studio recently declared that the team has passed an ‘important milestone’ on X, so the game hasn’t been completely abandoned. However, it seems as if new details have emerged that claim the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake isn’t the same game it once was.
The State of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake
According to Insider Gaming, the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake has been completely remade, and you should “forget everything you’ve seen or heard from the reveal trailer“. The original announcement, when Ubisoft Montreal took over development, stated that they would be “building upon” work that the previous studios had already done. Nevertheless, this seems to be inaccurate, and the game has been completely remade. This means that the release date is still a long way off.
Here are the details based on the game’s current state:
- The Remake is now a “more realistic” approach, including a graphical overhaul, new animations, and mechanics for combat and parkour.
- The game has been rewritten and recaptured in motion capture.
- Yuri Lowenthal will not reprise his role despite featuring in the original reveal trailer
