Australian consumers don’t need to wait much longer for the PlayStation 5 Slim, as the console will be available in stores before Christmas.
The PS5 Slim is an upgraded version of the original PlayStation 5 and is similar to what Sony previously did for the PlayStation 4 after 3 years of its life cycle. Here are all the details.
PS5 Slim Release Date and Pricing in Australia
The PlayStation 5 Slim will be available locally starting December 6, with pre-orders available today. The recommended retail price (RRP) for the new PS5 model is AU$ 799.95 for the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and AU$ 679.95 for the Digital Edition.
If you purchase the PS5 Digital Edition and want to add the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, you can do so for AU$ 159.95, which is slightly more expensive than just purchasing the Disc Drive edition in the first place. There is also a new Vertical Stand, but this is sold separately for AU$ 49.95.
The Slim will receive a range of colourful Console Covers in the new year, including a matte Black option and the Deep Earth Collection in Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue, and Sterling Silver. More colors will be announced in the future, and pricing details will also come later.
What Are The Differences Between the Regular PS5 and PS5 Slim?
There are some minor differences between the original PS5 and the new Slim model, most notably in the storage size. The PS5 Slim comes with 1TB storage instead of the 825GB in the original. Of course, you’ll lose a bit of storage with system software, but at least you’ll be able to add a couple more games without deciding what to delete.
The new PS5 Slim has been reduced in volume by over 30% and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models. There are also four separate cover panels (2 on either side), with the top half in gloss and the bottom in matte.
As mentioned above, you can now add the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive to the PS5 Slim Digital Edition. This feature was missing in the original PS5 Digital Edition.
