PlayStation 5 Sales

PlayStation 5 Has Sold Over 50 Million Units Since Launch

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) announced today that the PlayStation 5 console (PS5) has sold over 50 million units since its launch in November 2020.

The PlayStation 5 has increased its sales dramatically this year, with the console recently launching its smaller variation, the PlayStation 5 Slim, and many other peripherals coming in 2024. It’s also the first year that PS5s have been readily available to purchase in stores, something that was unavailable in the first couple of years of its lifecycle.

What Sony Has to Say About The PS5 Sales Milestone

Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, spoke out about the PS5 sales milestone, stating, “Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners.”

Ryan also continued about the availability of PlayStation 5s for the holiday season: “We’re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we’re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since launch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles – so anyone who wants to get one can get one.”

There are over 2,500 PS5 games available for purchase, and PlayStation is currently holding its biggest sale of the year on the PlayStation Store with discounts on Baldur’s Gate 3, Alan Wake 2, and EA Sports FC 24.

You can pick up a PlayStation 5 Slim for the holiday season on Amazon for AU$769 or at JB Hi-Fi for $799.
