Indie Horror Lethal Company Is Outselling Call of Duty: MW3

The sudden smash hit indie survival horror game Lethal Company is currently outselling Call of Duty: MW3 on Steam.

It’s rare for an indie game to go toe-to-toe with triple-A releases, but it does occasionally happen. Titles like Among Us, Phasmobia, and Stardew Valley have taken the world by storm at one point or another. It’s typically due to their unique concepts, great gameplay, or just generally good vibes. Well, it’s looking like Lethal Company, a recently released Early Access survival horror game, is doing the same. It is currently outselling the much-maligned Call of Duty: MW3.

Lethal Company Is Outselling COD

Lethal Company is currently outselling Call of Duty: MW3. It is sitting in second place on the Steam Global Top Sellers list, just below the Steam Deck. MW3 itself isn’t selling as well as maybe some would expect, sitting at 10th place, below the likes of Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, Diablo 4, and Forza Horizon 5. However, it is most notable that Lethal Company, an indie horror from a solo developer, is outselling one of the biggest franchises in gaming history.

This isn’t a surprise, however, as not only is MW3 getting panned by critics and fans alike, but Lethal Company currently sits at a 98% Overwhelmingly Positive rating across 85,676 reviews. Conversely, MW3 is at a 55% Mixed rating across 269,598 reviews.

The Steam Global Top Sellers List with Lethal Company at the top

Of course, there are a few factors behind this. For one, MW3 is being outsold by other games currently on sale. Additionally, Lethal Company is a lot cheaper, at only $10, which makes it more enticing. However, perhaps most importantly, Lethal Company just has all the right ingredients for a viral game. It offers a fun, survival horror co-operative gameplay with creative visuals and interesting game design. Largely thanks to YouTube, Twitch, and word of mouth, the game has ballooned in popularity.
