Four Helldivers in Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 Reaches Over 8 Million Players In Just One Month

Players are clearly loving Helldivers 2 and are down to spread democracy across the stars, as it has sold over 8 million copies since launch.

Helldivers 2 has been out for just over one month, and already it’s smashing its sales targets. With players sharing their nightmarish stories of battling the Automatons and Terminids, it’s no surprise just how well it has done. In fact, the action-packed shooter, which is only available on PC and PlayStation, has done so well and reached such a huge player base that it has apparently already crossed the 8 million sales mark just after one month.

Helldivers 2 Player Count Hits Over 8 Million In Just One Month

Helldivers 2 has sold over 8 million copies since it launched in February, just over one month ago. This is according to TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz, who, via Bloomberg, stated that it will only grow from there. He said, “We believe the game has performed well ahead of expectations.” While this is only an estimate, it’s likely a fairly accurate figure, especially as the peak player count on Steam alone has, according to SteamDB, already hit 458,709 players.

Back in February, Helldivers 2 was the best-selling game in the UK according to GSD (Game Sales Data), with 57% of its sales being on PlayStation and 43% on PC. Its meteoric success saw its sales rise to nearly 115% in its second week, which then grew by an additional 21% in its third. To put in context just how impressive Helldivers 2’s success has been, its first three weeks of sales were only 28% lower than Spider-Man 2’s, which is one of Sony’s biggest successes to date.

In contrast, the first Helldivers game has only sold 2 million copies since its launch back in 2015, according to VG Insights. It’s fair to say, then, that Helldivers 2 has been an absolute runaway success. It’s all down to the game’s phenomenal marketing, which pushed its satirical narrative alongside its action-packed gameplay to draw players in. Additionally, word of mouth has really helped to sell the game, as players from across the world have been sharing their wild adventures across the likes of Malevelon Creek and Tien Kwan.

Of course, the lower price tag and lack of intrusive microtransactions have likely helped, too. After all, in our own review, we praised the fair battle pass system, calling it the “perfect live service launch.” Regardless of what got players hopping into their Hellpods, it’s led to some truly spectacular moments for the community. Seeing the player counts skyrocket on each planet as players rush to liberate them for Super Earth is always an incredible feeling for players.
