Helldivers 2 has a lot of difficult enemies to contend with, but there are hardly any as tough and challenging as the Annihilator Tank from the Automaton faction. This intimidating mechanized beast can cause trouble for even the most experienced Helldiver. Its almost impenetrable metal exterior and powerful weaponry can make short work of you if you’re not careful. Fortunately, there are a few key ways you can take them out.
Helldivers 2: What Are Annihilator Tanks & Where to Find Them?
Annihilator Tanks are heavy enemies and are part of the Automaton faction in Helldivers 2. They have a large, long-barreled cannon as their main weapon and are separate from Shredder Tanks, which use a machine gun turret instead of a cannon. Annihilator Tanks are found on Automaton-controlled planets in the red sector of the Western section of the Galactic War map. More specifically, they can be found in the Severin, Xzar, Trigon, and Theseus sectors.
It’s important to note that Annihilator Tanks can only appear from Difficulty 3 (Medium) and onwards. If you’re feeling particularly brave and are looking to hunt one of these bad boys down, it’s better to crank up the difficulty to increase your chances of seeing one spawn. We recommend playing in at least Difficulty 5 (Hard) or 6 (Extreme), as you will likely have multiple Annihilator Tank encounters there.
How to Kill Annihilator Tanks in Helldivers 2
The best way to kill out Annihilator Tanks in Helldivers 2 is to aim for the orange glowing vents on the back of its body and turret with heavy weapons, such as the Railgun, Anti-Material Rifle, and Autocannon. These vents act as weak spots and will inflict considerable damage to the Tank when targeted by heavy weapons. Another effective strategy is to call in explosive Stratgems such as the Orbital Laser, Eagle 500kg Bomb, and Orbital Railcannon Strike. These are the most effective ways of quickly dealing devastating damage to Annihilator Tanks if you have them on hand.
Be warned, as Annihilator Tanks can take you out very quickly if you’re not careful. If they manage to hit you, you can die in one shot. Once an Annihilator Tank has you in its sights, try and do your best to duck for cover immediately! If you can, try to get as close to it as possible, as it will struggle to target you when you close the gap. What’s more, if you manage to stand on top of it, it can’t target you at all! This will leave its vents free to shoot at while it helplessly moves around in circles as you damage its weak spots.
