Do You Need to Play Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 to Play 2?

With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 right around the corner, players who missed Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 or Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales are likely wondering if they need to play them to understand the sequel.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a direct sequel to the previous games, with characters returning from both. But do you need to play the previous games to appreciate this one?

Should You Play Spider-Man 1 to Play Spider-Man 2?

Yes, you should play Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 in order to play Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. That’s because the first game introduces a key villain, Martin Li, and several side characters that are very important to the second game.

The first game also introduces the player to Norman Osborne and his son, Harry, both of whom will play a crucial role in the second game.

To fully appreciate the emotional stakes and understand who everyone is and what events they’re talking about, it is recommended you play through Marvel’s Spider-Man 1 before starting the sequel. Should You Play Spider-Man: Miles Morales to Play 2?

Yes, it is recommended that you play Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales before playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It sets up Miles as a character as well as his own cast of side characters, all of whom will likely appear in the sequel.

Additionally, the spin-off title is not that long, coming in at roughly 7 hours to complete the main story. While the villains will likely not appear in the sequel, it is important to play Miles Morales to get a good idea of who he is.
