What is Ashes of Kanaka?

Ashes of Kanaka is a cyberpunk RPG that takes place in the future where humanity has left Earth to rot. You play as an agent of the Order of the All-Seeing Eye (OASE), the governing organisation of the new civilisation on Kanaka. Although, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, and it’s up to the player and their team to save their new home.

The world of Kanaka features a wide variety of regions and biomes that are begging to be explored. The original game boasted around 40 hours of gameplay in a single playthrough. However, with the power of Unreal Engine, the game is going to feature more content than ever before. From the deserts of Hayphon to the jungles of Kamua, the game is going to completely revamp the original game.

Besides changing the game from 2D to 3D, Dogwood Gaming’s new AI system seems to be the team’s key feature in the remake. The Dogwood Companion System allows the developers to create complex characters that grow alongside the players in more ways than just statistical upgrades. The system also extends to other AI, enemies and NPCs in the game. And with a huge cast of 55 different characters, there is plenty to explore.

Ashes of Kanaka is being developed using the Unreal Engine and is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. You can check out the original game now on Steam.
