XDefiant, The Free-to-Play Shooter Enters Closed Beta

Ubisoft has announced the closed beta dates for their upcoming arcade-style shooter, XDefiant, which features factions inspired by popular Ubisoft franchises.

XDefiant is a new FPS game developed by Ubisoft San Francisco and led by Mark Rubin and Jason Schroeder. The game features factions and characters inspired by Tom Clancy games and beyond. Players can personalise their Defiants to match their playstyle, choose from a range of primary and secondary weapons, and tweak their loadout on the fly.

The game offers a variety of competitive 6v6 game modes, such as Domination and Escort, and diverse factions of Defiants, including the Wolves, Echelon, Outcasts and Cleaners.

Closed Beta Details

The closed beta has commenced today and will continue until April 24 (AEST). Crossplay functionality will be available during the Closed Beta, allowing players to enjoy XDefiant from their PC, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. Players can participate in the closed beta by registering for a chance on the game’s website.

Throughout the closed beta, players will have the opportunity to experience the XDefiant arena and explore the features that will be available at the game’s launch. You can expect the following to be available:

  • All 14 launch maps
  • Four Ubisoft franchise-inspired factions
  • 24 weapons
  • 44 attachments
  • Five explosive devices

Closed Beta Additional Details

XDefiant Factions

In XDefiant, players can choose to play as one of four factions inspired by Ubisoft franchises, namely The Cleaners from The Division, Libertad from Far Cry 6, Echelon from Splinter Cell, and Phantoms from Ghost Recon Phantoms. Each faction comprises three characters, but initially only one character from each faction is unlocked. The remaining characters can be unlocked by completing missions.

Will My Progress in the Closed Beta Transfer to the Full Game?

No, progress in XDefiant will not transfer from the Closed Beta to the full game. However, players will have the opportunity to keep up to 10 exclusive cosmetic items upon release.

To mark the beginning of today’s Closed Beta, XDefiant held a special event on Ubisoft’s official Twitch and YouTube channels. The event featured a comprehensive overview of the game, a seasonal roadmap, a Q&A session with Executive Producer Mark Rubin, and a ranked mode show match hosted by popular streamers Patrick “Aches” Price and Jonathan “Pacman” Tucker.
