Warner Bros. Games has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1, the latest instalment in the renowned Mortal Kombat video game franchise.
With over 80 million units sold since its inception three decades ago, Mortal Kombat has captivated gamers worldwide. Developed by the acclaimed NetherRealm Studios, Mortal Kombat 1 promises a reimagined universe with iconic heroes and villains presented in unprecedented ways.
David Haddad, President of Warner Bros. Games, expressed his excitement about the reimagined universe, stating, “The talented team at NetherRealm Studios continues to push the series forward in bold ways that have consistently expanded the global audience, and we believe Mortal Kombat 1 will continue to attract new players as well as thrill our core fans.”
Ed Boon, Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm Studios and Co-Creator of Mortal Kombat, added, “Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this original storyline and fresh take on classic characters with our fans.” Boon also teased the introduction of the Kameo Fighter system, promising to reveal more new elements of the game in the near future.
What is Mortal Kombat 1?
In Mortal Kombat 1, players will enter a reborn Mortal Kombat Universe, shaped by the Fire God Liu Kang. This fresh narrative will introduce players to a host of reimagined characters, presenting them in a never-before-seen light. Fans can expect the return of NetherRealm’s genre-defining Story Mode, featuring an immersive cinematic experience filled with unexpected twists on classic rivalries and original backstories for the legendary fighters.
The extensive cast includes beloved characters like Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many more. Additionally, as previously mentioned, Mortal Kombat 1 will introduce the Kameo Fighters, a unique roster of partner characters that can provide assistance during matches, offering expanded gameplay possibilities.
Mortal Kombat 1 Pre-Order Details
Pre-orders for Mortal Kombat 1 are available now across all launch platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Three editions will be available:
- Standard Edition: Physically and digitally accessible, including Steam and Epic Games Store versions.
- Premium Edition: Physically and digitally available, offering the Kombat Pack, early access starting on September 14, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency).
- Kollector’s Edition: Physically obtainable at select retailers, exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This edition includes all content from the Premium Edition, an exclusive Liu Kang sculpture, three art prints, a steel case, and 1,450 additional Dragon Krystals.
All pre-orders of Mortal Kombat 1 will grant players access to Shang Tsung as a playable character in the game. Additionally, those who pre-order the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will receive exclusive access to the Beta, available in August 2023.
When Does Mortal Kombat 1 Release?
Mortal Kombat 1 will release on September 19, 2023, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
