Layers of Fear (2023) Shows Off Core Mechanics in New Preview

Bloober Team and Anshar Studios are happy to release the first official gameplay preview for the highly anticipated horror game Layers of Fear (2023).

Bloober Team are not new to horror games and have brought us countless scares over the years in the form of The Medium and, of course, the original Layers of Fear. On the other hand, Anshar Studios is a video game company that helps other companies complete games. Fortunately, they also develop first-party games like the highly successful, cyberpunk RPG Gamedec.

The preview showcases the game’s stunning visual upgrades and new mechanics, which promise to deliver an immersive and terrifying gaming experience. You can check out the full gameplay walkthrough below.

What is Layers of Fear (2023)?

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Layers of Fear (2023) presents a unified vision of horror reimagined, featuring the original Layers of Fear, Layers of Fear 2, and all DLCs, including a new chapter entitled “The Final Note.” The new chapter provides an alternate perspective on the first game’s storyline, while also introducing the never-before-told story of The Writer, tying each entry in the series together.

According to Bloober Team, Layers of Fear (2023) is a tribute to its fans and the culmination of the team’s efforts to make the best horror experiences possible. The game introduces new core gameplay mechanics, including the addition of a lantern, which will be essential in confronting the fears that lurk within the game’s story. The game’s Lumen system adds to the visual experience, creating an immersive atmosphere that is both terrifying and engaging.

Layers of Fear (2023) also boasts a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack, composed by two-time nominee Arek Reikowski. His hypnotic score adds an extra layer of tension to the game. This is paired with the enhanced visual fidelity made possible by Unreal Engine 5, which supports Ray Tracing, HDR, and 4K resolution.
