Is Armored Core 6 Open-World?

The newest entry in the mech series, Armored Core 6, releases next month but many players are wondering if the game will feature an open world like other FromSoftware games.

The genre of open-world adventures has always been a very popular genre among gamers. Titles such as Breath of The Wild, Red Dead Redemption 2, and even Pokemon Legends: Arceus have strong exploration with plenty of content.

As Armored Core 6 gets close to launch, many are curious if the mecha-combat series will have the same courtesy.

FromSoftware and Open Worlds

FromSoftware, the devs behind Armored Core 6 are no strangers to the open-world genre. Some of their games feature a linear open world such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls.

The game with a truly massive open experience was also their biggest success, Elden Ring, having shipped over 20 million copies as of February 2023. The open exploration aspect was well received by many, not just FromSoftware fans but also newcomers to the Souls genre.

It would seem with a track record such as theirs, they would want to continue the trend and add exploration. As the prospect of being able to explore and become a part of the world that one is playing in can be a great sense of immersion to experience.

Does Armored Core 6 Have An Open World?

Unfortunately for those hoping to have an experience of exploring, you may be disappointed. FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has confirmed that the game will not feature an open world.

Instead, the format for Armored Core 6 is the same as other titles in the series and will feature a linear mission design. The missions themselves are repeatable but are more linear and will not offer much freedom to explore.

It seems like FromSoftware wants to allow their other IPs to forge and have their own identities, without needing to rely on the open world. Although news such as this isn’t surprising with the series never having it.
