Starfield is out now for players with early access, and there are a few bugs that Bethesda will need to address. However, one of the most notable issues is that Starfield on Steam does not seem to register when a controller is plugged in.
While this is an issue that will need to be rectified in future patches, it doesn’t change the fact that many players will want to use a controller when playing the game on PC. Fortunately, we have managed to figure out a temporary fix so that you can play using a controller with Starfield on Steam.
How to Use A Controller With Starfield on Steam
Plugging in a controller or connecting it via Bluetooth doesn’t seem to register with Starfield is open. This seems to be an error by the developers, but here is how to use a controller with Starfield on Steam:
- Right-click on Starfield in your Steam library
- Select “Properties”.
- Head to “Controller”.
- Next to “Override for Starfield” in the drop-down menu, select “Enable Steam Input“.
This will enable the ability to use a controller in the game, whether plugged in or via Bluetooth. However, if you use a PlayStation controller, the buttons will show as Xbox buttons. For example, “X” will be “A” on Xbox. While this isn’t the best option, it’s the only possible way for Steam players to use a controller with Starfield.
We’ll be sure to update this article if there is any official update from Bethesda.
