Capcom E3 2021

Everything Announced at The Capcom E3 Expo Showcase 2021

This year’s Capcom showcase at E3 was hosted by Rachel Qirico Seltzer. The show featured additions to fan-favourite franchises, some of which have already been released, and an esports promotion at the end.

The three franchises that made the bulk of the show were Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney.

Resident Evil Village

Resident Evil celebrated its 25 year anniversary as a franchise, with Resident Evil Village releasing on May 7th, 2021. The newest entry to the Survival/Horror franchise featured many Resident Evil staples, but most importantly, Lady Dimitrescu.

Moreover, Resident Evil Village producer Tsuyoshi Janda revealed that those who purchase the game will receive RE: Verse, a Resident Evil multiplayer game, for free. Another DLC was teased at the end for Village, but no additional details were shared. All of the above is available on PS4, PS5, XBOX Series X/S, XBOX One, Steam and Stadia.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a story-based RPG that follows Monster Hunter Rise. The game will require the player to form a kinship with Razwing Ratha, a dragon who will fight by your side, as you attempt to solve the mysteries of the Wings of Ruin.

The presentation also featured free title updates, a deluxe edition, including figurines and other merchandise along with the game, and pre-order exclusive bonuses. The full game is set to be released on July 9th, but a trial version will be available starting June 25th. Progress made in the trial version can be transferred to the full game upon release.

Lastly, on June 24th, 2021, the new Version 3.1 DLC will be added to Monster Hunter Rise. There will also be a collaboration event between the two games that will feature limited-edition quest rewards and other exclusive items.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles

North American and European players will finally be able to get a hold of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. This includes The Great Ace Attorney Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney Resolve 2.

The two games were released in 2015 and 2017, but only in Japan. In Chronicles, the player will go back in time to the late 19th century and incarnate Ryonosuke Naruhodo, an ancestor of Phoenix Wright. The games are reminiscent of the original trilogy, mixed with updated graphics and some new mechanics.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles includes the same wittiness as its predecessors, with the detective, Herlock Sholmes, helping with investigations. In this Dance of Deduction, Herlock will make several impressive, but wrong assumptions, which Ryonosuke, along with his assistant Susato Mikotoba, will have to correct using observation and evidence. Once the conclusion is clear, Ryonosuke and Herlock will complete each other’s sentences to finally uncover the truth, thus honouring its namesake.

This is also the first time players will be faced with a jury trial. Six jurors will have to undergo a Summation Examination and have their minds changed by picking out contradictions in their testimony. As jurors change their mind, they will tip the balance of justice towards the desired “Not Guilty” verdict. The main antagonist is the prosecutor, Barok Van Zieks. This set, which includes 10 new cases and 8 escapades, is to be released on July 27th, 2021, on PS4, Nintendo Switch and Steam.
