Cyberpunk 2077: How to Start the Phantom Liberty DLC Expansion
Cyberpunk 2077‘s major story expansion Phantom Liberty launches next week, and here is everything you need to know before firing up the DLC.
The highly-anticipated Phantom Liberty expansion is just a few days away, and there are a few different ways to access it. Whether you’re looking to pick it up on launch day or have already pre-ordered, here is how you can begin the story.
How to Access Phantom Liberty in Cyberpunk 2077
Players wanting to start the Phantom Liberty expansion — which features Idris Elba — can do so in different ways depending on their save.
If you have already beaten the main story of Cyberpunk 2077, you will have instant access to the Phantom Liberty expansion when it launches. You will receive a notification when you start up the game.
However, if you have not yet beaten the main story and have a new save, you have two options. You can skip right to the expansion and have attribute points allocated automatically or you will need to complete the Transmission main quest job first. This involves defeating Maman Brigitte and her group known as the Voodoo Boys in the district of Pacifica. Once you have done this, you will be contacted by Songbird, who will offer to save your life in exchange for a favor. This favor is the start of the Phantom Liberty expansion quest.
When does Phantom Liberty take place?
The Phantom Liberty expansion is connected to the main game narrative and takes place just before the final mission of the game, Nocturne Op55N1, where a point of no return is triggered. By playing the expansion, players can work more closely with Johnny Silverhand before the final story mission.
For a more seamless narrative, it is recommended to start a new save and play the expansion when it becomes available, rather than finishing the main game and then doubling back to the expansion. The expansion also offers a new ending to the game, depending on the choices made within the expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is launching as a next-gen-only expansion on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. The expansion will be released on September 26, 2023. Update 2.0 releases a few days before the DLC and completely overhauls many core features in the game. You can check out the differences here.
