Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Multiplayer Reveal

New gameplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War premiered earlier today. We finally got to see the first glimpse into Multiplayer. And it did not disappoint.

The most controversial point of the upcoming game will be the return of Scorestreaks, taking over from Killstreaks in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Maps

Armada

Call of Duty

Inspired by real-life events, two ships feature on the map with a sunken sub in the centre. This map features no lanes with zip-lines from ship to ship, allowing you to go practically anywhere. You can engage on the ships, on Jet skis and even in the water.

Moscow

Call of Duty

Moscow is based around a train station in the heart of a big city. There are plenty of options for cover situated around the map as you go duck in and around buildings. It is a classic 3 lane map with all lanes crossing over in the centre at the metro station.

Satellite

Call of Duty

A top-secret recon satellite has crashed in the Angola desert. The map uses the broken satellite as a centralised landmark. It is a large map with the satellite being set up higher than the rest of the map. Satellite is set to boast “Great cat and mouse” gameplay with different nooks and crannies surrounding the debris.

Miami

Call of Duty

Miami is based on Ocean Drive. It is a night map featuring ’80s night club music with neon lights. The map offers a lot of diversity. You can sneak in the shadows of the alleys or go out on the beach and even dive into the water. The main street to the focal point of the map.

Crossroads

Call of Duty

Crossroads looks like a map from the campaign. The map offers foliage and natural terrain to provide cover for infantry combat. Snow mobiles are available at spawn and Tanks feature in the map as well.

Game Modes

All of the classic modes are returning: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Search and Destroy and Hardpoint. hardpoint now shows the next location so you can rotate and regroup before pushing towards the next site. Control also returns from Black Ops 4.

There are also a few new modes that will feature in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War:

  • VIP Escort – In VIP Escort you must stay alive and escort the VIP to the evacuation points. The VIP can also revive teammates. VIP’s skip create-a-class and spawn with a customised pistol, spy plane for team recon and a smoke grenade to provide cover.
  • Combined Arms – Combined Arms features 12v12 gameplay with vehicles. We will see tanks, snowmobiles, gunboats and more as we get closer to release date.
  • Fireteam – Deploy into large maps while playing extremely fast is the focus of Fireteam. In Fireteam: Dirty Bomb, you and your team must find uranium and deliver it to the dirty bombs around the map. Deposit Uranium and detonate the bomb to win.

Combat

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War will feature boots on the ground combat with a high level of detail and realism. Extra attention to sound design looks to be touched on in the upcoming game, with your footsteps becoming louder the faster you move while crouched.

Create-A-Class

Call of Duty

Create-A-Class is keeping the classic slot-based system. You will always kick up with a primary and secondary gun, Lethal and tactical grenade, perks, field upgrade and a wildcard. Field upgrades will also be based on time instead of score.

Ninja (Dead Silence) will also be a perk in the next game, not a field upgrade.

The gunsmith will return giving each primary weapon over 50 attachments to customise and tweak your weapon. You are able to equip 5 attachments and for the first time, changing attachments will show you stat change percentages.

Call of Duty

Scorestreaks have returned and will continue to count after you die. In order to prevent air-support spam, a cooldown has been added. Scorestreaks can also normally be countered with counter streaks but we will have to see for ourselves in the beta.

Warzone

Warzone returns in Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War and it will merge with Modern Warfare. Verdansk looks to combine elements from both the games but we will have to see how the map changes over time. Cold War will share progression with Modern Warfare. Cosmetics, Characters and skins will continue on to the next Call of Duty. This will also be the first Call of Duty to offer both cross-play and cross-generational play.

Zombies

We saw a brief 30 second glimpse of Zombies, but will have to wait to see more information on that.

Call of Duty

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Beta will be on October 8 (First on PS4) and the game will release on November 13. If you want to see the full live stream, you can watch it here.
