It has also been announced that Battlefield 2042 will not feature a single-player campaign. Additionally, they have also confirmed that it will not feature a battle royale mode. Instead, the game will focus on multiplayer, allowing up to 128 players to duke it out on the battlefield. This is reduced to 64 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Players will, however, be able to fight against AI bots either solo or with friends.

In lieu of a narrative, Battlefield 2042 will feature specialists. The narrative will supposedly be told through them, as well as the game’s backdrop. According to an interview with Eurogamer, Battlefield 2042 design director, Daniel Berlin, said: “as we go through the live service, and the seasons, we’ll introduce new specialists, and you’ll see how the world evolves through the eyes of the specialists that we have.”

Battlefield 2042 will be available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC on 22nd October.
