Less than two weeks from release, critically acclaimed developer, Heart Machine, best known for Hyper Light Drifter, is delaying its follow-up project, Solar Ash, until December 2, 2021.
Heart Machine and their publisher, Annapurna Interactive, announced the delay this afternoon through a Twitter post. According to the developer, the main culprit of delays is the global pandemic.
“We want Solar Ash to shine,” the post reads. “We need a bit more time to get the last pieces of polish and bug fixes into the game while still navigating this global pandemic as a dedicated team. This short delay will help us get there.”
Waves of Delays
Almost two years into the ongoing pandemic, its effects are still wreaking havoc on the games industry, among many others. Other significant releases continue to be delayed, due to the unforeseen fragmentation of workplaces, with many still working from home. AAA games like Battlefield 2042 and Dying Light, being two other releases, shifted off the 2021 release calendar onto 2022.
Regardless of the wait, fans seem supportive of Heart Machine’s decision. Many Twitter users responded with some version of “take your time” or Shigeru Miyamoto’s famous quote, “A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.”
When Solar Ash arrives on the Epic Games Store, PS5, and PS4 on December 2, players can expect an ethereal action-adventure game focusing on movement, exploration, and massive enemy encounters.
