Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet Announced, Coming Later This Year

Game Freak is proud to announce that the latest entries in the Pokemon Series, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, are coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet mark the introduction of the latest generation of Pokemon, and according to the Pokemon website, it will be a completely open world game. The reveal premiered during the 14-minute livestream event, which also showcased news for other games like Pokémon Go.

The new games seem to be taking notes from Pokemon Legends: Arceus. The latest game plans to merge the towns and wilderness seamlessly. Therefore, Pokemon will be completely visible across the land, similar to the other recent games in the series.

What Are The Starter Pokemon?

Furthermore, the trailer also gave us the first look at the upcoming starter Pokemon. Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly are the names of the traditional grass, fire and water type starters. Sprigatito is essentially a grass-based cat; Fuecoco looks like a little fire dinosaur; and Quaxly is the water-type starter, who kinda looks like Donald Duck. People have begun to speculate about the setting of the latest game. Gatito roughly translates to kitten in Spanish, so it could be assumed that the game has some Spanish influence.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet releases in late 2022 and will be the third Pokemon game in around a year.
