Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout – What Is it?

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout header

Since its release on August 4th, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has been popping up absolutely everywhere. Constantly topping the charts on Twitch and amassing over 120,000 concurrent players on steam.

Fall Guys is a new entry into the over-saturated battle royale genre. Instead of dropping into an area and trying to outlast all the other opponents, Fall Guys features round upon round of absolute mayhem.

Developed by Mediatonic and published by Devolver digital, Fall guys is a party game with up to 60 players online competing for the prestigious crown. Each round, players compete in various mini-games reminiscent of the old Japanese game show, Takeshi’s Castle. After each round that passes, players are eliminated from the game. From two teams competing in a game of soccer with two giant balls to an obstacle-filled with dreaded see-saws, Fall Guys has it all.

The Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout Hype Train

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout’s popularity has skyrocketed since it’s arrival and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down. Each week steam releases a Weekly Top Sellers List and Fall Guys is sitting at #1. Surpassing Grounded, which was previously at the top spot.

At the time of writing this, Fall Guys is also topping the Twitch streaming charts. Second to only the “Just Chatting” category.

With all the hype, comes backlash. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has already copped a lot of backlash on their servers. This past weekend they had to go down numerous times for maintenance. This was due to the servers not being able to handle the hundreds of thousands of players that gathered to play the game.

It is too soon to see if Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout can continue to build on the current hype and become a permanent fixture in the gaming community. But for now, Fall Guys feels like the ray of sunshine the world needed.
