On July 9th and 10th, CD PROJEKT RED and Netflix presented WitcherCon, a global online celebration of The Witcher franchise.
WitcherCon aired in two separate streams on Twitch and YouTube, containing numerous updates on different aspects of The Witcher franchise. The event revealed some key aspects for some exciting upcoming projects.
CD PROJEKT RED put the spotlight on the expanded Witcher universe in a segment titled: The Witcher: Beyond Video Games. This included the upcoming comic book, The Witcher: Ronin. The comic is styled in manga form and casts Geralt as a monster-slaying Ronin on the hunt for the mythical Yuki Onna (Lady of Snow). There will be a special collector’s edition of the manga arriving on Kickstarter soon.
You can check out the trailer here.
WitcherCon also presented new footage for the location-based AR RPGÂ The Witcher: Monster Slayer. In the game, players will become a witcher themselves and hunting down the ferocious beasts lurking nearby. This seems to CD PROJEKT RED’s answer to the AR RPG mobile trend, so we will have to see if it can break into the overpopulated market. The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be coming to iOS and Android for free on July 21st.
The Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED Collaboration
The Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED collaboration provided a lot of sneak peeks and updates regarding the second season of The Witcher Netflix series. The highly-anticipated second season of the Netflix series will come out on December 17th. You can check out the trailer here.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf anime also received a new trailer with a date announcement. The anime will air on August 23rd and you can watch the trailer here.
Furthermore, the collaboration between Netflix and CD PROJEKT RED extended past TV and into the video game world. Later in 2021, the next-gen edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and the game will also include bonus items inspired by the Netflix series.
