After being unavailable for eight months, MultiVersus has recently made a tease on social media, hinting that the game might return shortly.
MultiVersus was a free-to-play fighting game developed by Player First Games and published by Warner Bros. Games. The title featured characters from Warner Bros. Entertainment franchises, including Shaggy, Arya Stark, Batman, Gizmo (Gremlins), Morty (Rick & Morty), and much more. However, after a recent collaboration with McDonald’s Australia and an announcement on X (Twitter), MultiVersus might be finally making a return.
X (Twitter) Tease Announcement
The official MultiVersus Twitter / X account has made its first tweet since its June 2023 announcement that the game’s online features will be disabled and that the Open Beta was ending. The tweet reads *taps mic* testing, testing, 1, 2,. So, it’s as good of an indicator as any that it won’t be long before you can use the powers of Shaggy once more.
If that wasn’t enough, Mcdonald’s Australia has confirmed a MultiVersus collaboration via the website where players can collect 12 themed tins with collectibles. Therefore, it seems like we won’t have to wait long for the return of MultiVersus.
Why Was MultiVersus Taken Down?
MultiVersus saw unprecedented success in its first season, with over 150,000 concurrent players on Steam and more than 20 million downloads. However, the player counts quickly subsided during the game’s second season, and Warner Bros. made the decision to end the Beta period and shut down online features. This decision was made to prepare the game for its full release at a later date.
Warner Bros. recently mentioned that they want to focus on free-to-play games, so it makes sense that the return of MultiVersus is imminent.
