Now, the games that started it all are returning, thanks to a re-release announced at QuakeCon 2024 that features upgraded and new mechanics.

All Details For The DOOM + DOOM II Re-Release

During QuakeCon 2024, id Software’s Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin announced the new, definitive combined re-release of DOOM + DOOM II, which is available worldwide now. However, that’s not all; they also announced the DOOM Eternal mods beta, which brings official mod support to the iconic shooter. Originally released in 1993 and 1994, these two beloved games have been enhanced for their bundle. Below, you’ll find what is included in these new versions:

  • Online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players.
  • Community-published single-player mod support with an in-game mod browser.
  • Optimized renderer.
  • Accessibility options.
  • Optional IDKFA soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult selectable alongside the original midi soundtracks – including the never-before-released IDKFA version of DOOM II.
  • Improved performance with multithreaded rendering supporting up to 4K resolution and 120 FPS on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.
  • Brand new episode, “Legacy of Rust,” with new weapons and demons made in collaboration by individuals from id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames.
DOOM + DOOM II Trailer

This bundle is available to play on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC through Steam, Microsoft Windows Store, Epic Games Store, and GOG. It should be noted that those who already own the iconic DOOM games, DOOM (1993) and DOOM II, on any platform mentioned, will receive a free upgrade to this new version. Players won’t need to worry about previous saves, as they will still be accessible.

DOOM Eternal: PC Mod Preview

Mods have allowed many gaming communities to amp up gameplay or cause chaos when playing their selected games. However, this is usually done without official tools. Now, an official way to experience mods is available for DOOM Eternal; id Software released a public beta of idStudio. The official mod creation toolset for creators and an opt-in PC Mod Preview for players to easily browse and play mods. This PC Mod Preview is available now on Steam and Microsoft Store.

DOOM Anthology

A new physical release, the DOOM Anthology, was also announced at QuakeCon 2024. This includes DOOM (1993), DOOM II, DOOM 64, DOOM 3, DOOM (2016), and DOOM Eternal Deluxe Edition. Additionally, there is an exclusive SteelBook case and a 5-inch replica of the BFG with LEDs and a stand. The DOOM Anthology is available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It has an October 22, 2024 release and is currently available to pre-order.

DOOM SNES From Limited Run Games

DOOM SNES from Limited Run Games was also announced at QuakeCon 2024. This is an updated port of the original 16-bit DOOMSNES release, with both a Standard Edition and a Collector’s Edition. Featuring 14 new levels, circle strafing, and more, there is much to look forward to for its 2025 release. Below, we’ve listed what to expect from the Standard and Collector’s Edition:
