Zenless Zone Zero is the next big single-player hit from HoYoverse, but does ZZZ have multiplayer like its other games? Here’s what you need to know.
HoYoverse has made a name for itself in the free-to-play single-player market. However, while its games are predominantly all about saving the world alone, they do typically feature some form of multiplayer. Fortunately, for those worried that Zenless Zone Zero would buck the trend, multiplayer has made a return. However, it’s perhaps not in the way you might imagine.
Is There Multiplayer in Zenless Zone Zero?
Yes, Zenless Zone Zero does have multiplayer, but in a very limited capacity. There is no traditional co-op mode where you can explore the Hollows and New Eridu city together. Instead, the co-op is limited to playing two minigames in the Godfinger Arcade, and doing weekly combat challenges together via the VR Device in the Random Play Store.
Unfortunately, this means that those hoping there would be a Genshin Impact level of co-op mode will be sorely disappointed. It’s worth noting that there is a Friends List function, and you can add your friends to play certain minigames together. So, it’s possible that a more detailed and involved multiplayer offering will be added in a future update.

How to Unlock Multiplayer in Zenless Zone Zero
To unlock multiplayer in Zenless Zone Zero, you will need to head to the Godfinger Arcade on Sixth Street and complete Billy Kid’s quest. This will grant you access to the many minigames on offer in the arcade, including Soul Hounds III – Group Hunt and Snake Duel – Clash. These are the only multiplayer minigames currently available.
Alternatively, if you head to the Video Archive room in the Random Play store and interact with the VR Device in the corner, you can access the Reckless Challenge mode. This also allows for multiplayer. It won’t take you particularly long to unlock either of the multiplayer modes, as they’re accessible fairly early on.

All Zenless Zone Zero Multiplayer Modes
There are three multiplayer modes currently in Zenless Zone Zero. These are the Soul Hounds III – Group Hunt and Snake Duel – Clash minigames found in the Godfinger Arcade and the Reckless Challenge mode accessed via the VR Device in the Random Play store. We’ve broken down how they work below:
- Soul Hounds III – Group Hunt & Snake Duel – Clash: Once you’ve selected these, press the plus symbol to invite friends from your Friends List, or select the Match button to join a random match. Both minigames support up to four players.
- Soul Hounds III – Group Hunt involves players competing to dig the furthest down.
- Snake Duel – Clash is a clone of the popular game Snake
- Reckless Challenge: This can only be played with random players, as there is no option to invite your friends. You’ll be randomly matched with two other players, and you’ll each control a single character. You cannot switch to another character in this mode. You’ll fight a Weekly boss together and must take it down.
