Ubisoft Really Wants You to Know That XDefiant Has No “Pay-to-Win” Microtransactions

Ubisoft has made it abundantly clear that XDefiant will have absolutely no pay-to-win microtransactions in a new statement.

With XDeifant right around the corner, Ubisoft is looking to drum up hype. Of course, there’s no better way of doing that than reassuring customers they won’t be misled. If you’ve played any Ubisoft game, and we mean any, then you’ve encountered microtransactions. They’re often unnecessary and always plentiful. Well, Ubisoft isn’t saying that XDefiant won’t have them, it’s just confirming that they’re unnecessary.

Ubisoft States There Is No “Pay-to-Win” Content in XDefiant

In a blog post, Ubisoft clarified that XDefiant will have absolutely no pay-to-win content. It has stated that any content that affects gameplay, including weapons, factions, or more, will be earnable in-game. The only paid DLC will be purely cosmetic and will not affect players’ performance in the game.

The example it gave in the blog post was about the DedSec faction, which won’t be unlocked when you first start the game. While players can pay real money to get access to it immediately, you can also unlock it by completing the in-game challenge that requires you to earn 700k XP. We’ll put the full quote from Ubisoft below:

We want to take this time to have an open conversation about the different types of purchasable content we will provide. But first, let’s go over a major point:

  • There are no pay-to-win mechanics – Any gameplay impacting content that is purchasable is also unlockable through challenges to ensure fair play amongst our community.
  • For example, the DedSec faction in Preseason will be purchasable or unlockable through an in-game challenge by acquiring 700k XP.

All of this is in an effort to “be an amazing arcade shooter experience, in a Free-To-Play package.” It is certainly refreshing to see Ubisoft not grossly monetize one of its games, something it is prone to doing, including single-player releases. Fortunately, if you were hoping to experience XDefiant completely for free, you’ll absolutely be able to. You’ll stand just as good of a chance at winning as any other player, so long as you’re skilled enough.

That’s everything you need to know about XDefiant’s lack of pay-to-win microtransactions. Are you happy with this direction? Let us know in the comments below. Also, be sure to check out our Guide Hub for more articles just like this one.
