The First Descendant is obviously coming to next-gen consoles, but will it be on PS4 as well? Here’s what you need to know.
The First Descendant looks set to be a gorgeous next-gen experience running on the Unreal Engine 5. Of course, this would lead many to believe that it’ll be skipping last-gen consoles entirely. Well, surprisingly, that isn’t the case, as players who are still clinging to their older consoles will still get the opportunity to experience The First Descendant, although with a few setbacks.
Is The First Descendant on PS4?
Yes, The First Descendant is coming to PlayStation 4 as well as PS5. Anyone still playing exclusively on last-gen will be able to experience the looter-shooter. This may come as a surprise to many, especially considering the game is running on Unreal Engine 5 and is dropping 4 years after the PS5 launched. It’s safe to say there aren’t many games launching for the PS4 anymore.
Of course, you’ll be getting a compromised experience when playing The First Descendant on PS4. The load times are significantly longer, with maps taking upwards of 3 minutes to load. Additionally, the visuals will be paired back with blurrier textures and shorter render distances. Nevertheless, you’ll be able to experience absolutely everything the game has to offer, albeit at 30 FPS, unlike the higher framerates on next-gen platforms. You can see some PS4 gameplay in the video below:
It’s worth noting that The First Descendant will be launching on Xbox One as well as PS4. So, all last-gen gamers, apart from the Nintendo Switch, of course, will be able to battle together.
