The First Descendant: How to Dismantle Weapons

If you’ve got a bunch of weapons lying around in The First Descendant that you’ll never use, be sure to dismantle them for some extra materials. Here’s how you do it.

The First Descendant is a looter shooter, so you’re guaranteed to get not only a lot of weapons but a lot of useless ones, too. Fortunately, there’s a handy system that lets you break them down into Research Materials. It’s relatively easy to do and won’t take you more than a couple of seconds. Below, you’ll find a complete breakdown of the process.

How to Dismantle Weapons in The First Descendant

To dismantle your weapons in The First Descendant, you must head into your inventory, go to the weapons tab, find the weapon you want to dismantle, select the option “Select Junk” (R2 on console & J on PC), and then finally press “Dismantle Junk” (hold R2 on consoles & hold CTRL on PC). If you want to dismantle all of your currently unequipped weapons, then simply select “Designate all as junk” (hold R3 on consoles & hold Shift on PC) before pressing “Dismantle Junk.” To make the process as easy as possible for you, we’ve broken down the exact steps below:

  • Head into your Inventory
  • Go to the weapons tab

  • Select “Select Junk” – R2 on console & J on PC
    • To dismantle all unequipped weapons, select “Designate all as junk” – hold R3 on consoles & hold Shift on PC

If you get stuck, you can see which buttons you need to press at the bottom of the inventory screen. Once you’ve dismantled a weapon, you’ll get a random Research Material item in exchange, such as Liquid Metal or Superalloys. Of course, once a weapon has been dismantled, you won’t be able to get it back under any circumstances. So, be very careful when engaging with this process.
