The Entire Humble Games Publishing Team Has Been Reportedly Laid Off

The entire Humble Games publishing team, upwards of 36 people, has reportedly been laid off amid restructuring at the company.

Since its founding in 2017, Humble Games has published some of the most critically acclaimed indie games of the past decade. These include A Hat in Time, Slay the Spire, Unpacking, and Signalis, to name a few. Unfortunately, despite its success in finding and publishing great indie titles, it seems its staff is the victim of yet another mass layoff in the games industry.

Humble Games Publishing Team Laid Off Amid Restructuring

Humble Games, the indie video game publisher, has reportedly laid off its entire staff. This could include upwards of 36 people. While Humble Games has yet to confirm the exact number of employees let go, Nicola Kwan, the Business Development Manager at Humble Games, posted on LinkedIn saying, “all 36 employees of Humble Games were told that we were being let go and that the company is shutting down.”

However, despite the mass layoffs, Humble Games has stressed that it doesn’t mean the company is shutting down. In an email sent to media outlet PSU, it explained, “In short, no, the company is not shutting down but is undergoing restructuring.” It further clarified that “ongoing projects and upcoming releases are not affected” and that they will continue to support them. It is worth noting that this will not affect Humble Bundle, which is separate from the publishing branch.

Furthermore, in a statement provided to Eurogamer, the company insisted that “supporting our development partners and assisting former team members remains [their] top priority.” This is yet another in a long line of layoffs within the gaming industry that has affected over 10,000 people since the start of the year. The number of layoffs this year may soon surpass that of all of 2023, a truly devastating and grim possibility. For more gaming news coverage, be sure to check out our Guide Hub.
