Remember Nintendo’s terrifying teaser for the mysterious Emio? Well, we finally know who Emio is and what spooky game Nintendo has been cooking up.
For context, Nintendo released a creepy teaser trailer featuring a man wearing a bag on his head with a spooky smile drawn on it. It is definitely scarier than it sounds, and it sent the internet into a frenzy, wondering what it all meant. Some theorized that Bloober Team, the folks behind The Medium and more horror games, were making a game for Nintendo. Unfortunately, like all internet mysteries, it turns out to be a whole less scary than we all thought.
Nintendo’s Emio Turns Out to Be a Visual Novel
Emio – The Smiling Man is a new Famicom Detective Club game, and it’s coming out soon. For those not in the know, the Famicom Detective Club games are a series of mystery visual novels in which players solve spooky crimes in Japan. The first two games were ported to the Switch three years ago, although we didn’t have too many kind words to say about them. However, fans have been waiting for a new entry for quite some time, and fortunately, it’s almost upon us. This latest entry will be released on Monday, August 26, 2024.
Emio – The Smiling Man Famicom Detective Club is a standalone title that sees players take on the role of a new private detective. It’s your job to solve a series of gruesome murders tied to a serial killer called Emio, the Smiling Man. Of course, like all Famicom Detective Club games, there will be some returning characters, although it doesn’t seem like knowledge of the prior games is necessary. We’re not going to pretend that we’re particularly enthused by this reveal, but it is definitely exciting for fans of the Famicom Detective Club series. Were you expecting more from the Emio tease?
