Duskmourn: House of Horror, the newest Magic: The Gathering set, has just been released, packed with new mechanics and a horror-inspired theme.
Set within the mysterious plane of Duskmourn, this set brings a variety of new gameplay options for you to explore. Both the new and old mechanics are right on theme, with keywords such as Manifest Dread, Impending, and Eerie. Below we will cover the new mechanics and all the best cards to pack from the Duskmourn: House of Horror set.
Table of Contents
New and Returning Mechanics
- Manifest Dread: This new mechanic allows players to look at the top two cards of their library, play one face down as a 2/2 creature, while sending the other to the graveyard. If the face-down card is a creature, it can be flipped by paying its mana cost at any time.
- Impending: Cards with impending can be cast for a reduced cost and enter the battlefield with time counters. Each turn, a counter is removed, and once all counters are gone, the card transforms into a creature. This mechanic delays the card’s effects but offers a cheaper casting option upfront.
- Room Cards: Room cards are enchantments that act like split cards with two doors. Players cast one side to unlock part of a room’s effect, and can later pay to unlock the other side, granting access to both effects.
- Survival: Creatures with survival trigger an effect at the beginning of the second main phase if they are still tapped after combat. This ability still resolves if the card did not enter combat, but has been tapped by other means, such as convoke.
- Eerie: Eerie triggers whenever an enchantment enters the battlefield under a player’s control or when the second door of a Room is unlocked. This mechanic can be particularly useful in blink decks, giving you repeatable Eerie triggers.
- Delirium: Delirium grants additional effects when four or more card types are present in the graveyard. This returning mechanic encourages players to build a graveyard deck with a wide range of card types to make the most of Delirium, making it a natural fit for decks that have a lot of self-mill.
- Glimmer: Glimmers enter the battlefield as creatures but return as enchantments when they die, retaining their same effect but losing their creature type. Making them incredibly painful for your opponents to remove.
Full Art Manor Lands
Duskmourn’s haunting and ever-shifting landscapes come to life in the Full Art Manor Lands. Each land card showcases a different part of the plane’s eerie and surreal environments. These include the Mistmoors, Floodpits, Balemurks, Boilerbilges, and Hauntwoods.
These stunning full-art lands are designed to capture the unsettling atmosphere of Duskmourn, with twisted, impossible scenery representing the House’s many horrors. Available in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Paranormal Frame Cards
Paranormal Frames bring a retro-tech aesthetic to these cards with their TV static-like visuals. Inspired by classic horror imagery, the Paranormal frames reflect the haunting nature of the House, where even the technology you rely on could turn against you. Paranormal Frames are available in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Double Exposure Cards
Double Exposure cards in Duskmourn: House of Horror bring a chilling, photography-inspired art style to the set. Paying homage to classic horror imagery, these cards feature eerie overlays that capture both the characters and the evils they face in a haunting, ghostly manner.
Found in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, Double Exposure cards offer a unique visual twist. For those seeking something extra, textured foil versions of these cards, available exclusively in Collector Boosters, add a ghoulish shimmer to the already unsettling artwork.

Mirror Monster Cards
Mirror Monster cards in Duskmourn: House of Horror bring a cinematic feel to the game, with artwork that looks like scenes pulled straight from a horror film. These cards capture tense moments where the terror is revealed through a reflection, heightening the sense of dread.
With cards like Doomsday Excruciator and Hauntwoods Shrieker, the Mirror Monster cards give off a classic horror vibe, adding a dramatic flair to your collection. These can be found in both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters.

Japanese Showcase & Fracture Foils
Duskmourn introduces the Japan Showcase cards, featuring stunning card art from Japanese artists and illustrators. These cards pay homage to the renowned art styles seen in Japanese hobby stores.
For those lucky enough to find them, the even rarer Fracture Foil variants elevate the aesthetic further, featuring artwork by acclaimed artists like Silent Hill designer Masahiro Ito, whose rendition of Damnation depicts Duskmourn’s elder demon, Valgavoth. These cards can only be found in Collector Boosters.

Movie Poster-themed Promo Cards
One of our favorite card art concepts from any Magic: The Gathering set are the movie poster-themed promo reprints. These cards have been brought back with fresh artwork, designed to look like vintage movie posters. The aesthetic is bold and retro, giving off strong 70s and 80s vibes.
The three cards with this unique treatment are Living Death, Goryo’s Vengeance, and Archon of Cruelty, each evoking the feel of classic horror cinema through their design.
