LEGO Horizon Adventures: Is it Open World?

LEGO Horizon Adventures may take the excellent narrative-driven experience and LEGO-ify it, but does it retain that sprawling open-world gameplay?

It’s fair to say that the LEGO Horizon Adventures game took many players by surprise. Of course, we’ve since gotten a blog post explaining some details about it, but there are many places where players are left in the dark. For example, is this LEGO version of PlayStation’s beloved game open world? Below, we explain what kind of exploration you can expect in LEGO Horizon Adventures.

Is LEGO Horizon Adventures Open World?

No, LEGO Horizon Adventures is not open-world. Instead, it is a linear retelling of Horizon Zero Dawn, taking players through the highlights of the original game’s locations and story beats. Players shouldn’t expect to explore a sprawling open world. Instead, there will be large areas, a hub area that players can decorate and shape to be their own, and more linear story-focused sections.

This isn’t particularly surprising, especially considering that it’s the general formula for LEGO games. Of course, it does seem strange to build a LEGO game around an open-world experience, but make it linear. However, it looks like PlayStation wants this to be the “playful and light-hearted” version of the Horizon series. So, no depressing Aloy coming to terms with the harsh realities of her world.

So, expect a fun, breezy, co-op adventure through the plot of Horizon Zero Dawn without the expansive open-world gameplay. That’s everything you need to know about LEGO Horizon Adventures’ world. For more guides just like this one, be sure to check out our Guide Hub.
