Hellblade 2 features a number of difficulty modes, including one called Dynamic. If you’re confused as to how it changes the game, here’s what you need to know.
Hellblade 2 isn’t an overly challenging game, but many players may find some of its combat encounters a little overwhelming. Fortunately, there are a number of difficulty modes to help you tailor the experience to your preferred level of challenge. However, this includes a difficulty called Dynamic, which may be a little confusing for some. Fortunately, we’ve broken down exactly how this difficulty mode affects Hellblade 2’s gameplay.
What Is Dynamic Difficulty in Hellblade 2?
The Dynamic difficulty mode in Hellblade 2 will make the game’s combat harder or easier, depending on your performance. If you are doing well in combat and aren’t dying much or taking damage, combat will become far more challenging, with enemies using more complex combos against you. However, if you find yourself dying a lot, the combat will be made easier. Once you start to get the hang of it again, it’ll become harder. The Dynamic difficulty mode does not affect the difficulty of puzzles.
Essentially, if you have the difficulty set to Dynamic, then the game will generally always feel fair and satisfying, as it’ll ensure you’re never overly punished nor find things too easy. However, if you find it’s still too difficult or perhaps not challenging enough, you can toggle the difficulty to Easy, Medium, or Hard. Easy makes the game’s combat a walk in the park, whereas Medium amps up the difficulty a bit, although still keeps things fair. Hard, on the other hand, is really challenging, and you should only pick this option if you really want a challenge.

We recommend keeping the game on Dynamic difficulty throughout the majority of your Hellblade 2 playthrough. At the very least, you should start off with it turned on. We found that it kept things fair and interesting, resulting in a handful of deaths and some pretty challenging combat encounters, but nothing we couldn’t overcome. The Easy difficulty was too simple, and Medium lacked the nuance that the Dynamic difficulty mode offers.
