Ballad of Antara is an ambitious new free-to-play ARPG revealed during the recent State of Play. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
The May 2024 PlayStation State of Play gave players insight into many of the future titles for PlayStation, including a pretty incredible-looking all-new ASTRO BOT. However, a new IP also emerged from the State of Play: Ballad of Antara. This dark fantasy adventure looks like something players can easily spend many, many hours in, and luckily, it’s going to be free to play.
Ballad of Antara Brings Dark Fantasy Action to PS5 in 2025
Developed by Tipsworks Studio, Ballad of Antara thrusts players into a world with two sides: a regular, peaceful world and the Para, where dangers and peculiar encounters await. Various worlds are featured throughout the game, and each one features a unique Para. Furthermore, the reveal at the State of Play details that players step into the role of Emissaries. These are various playable characters that possess the ability to traverse between both worlds. Therefore, it seems like we may be able to swap to different characters throughout the game, especially as each has its own unique class.
Additionally, throughout the reveal trailer, players are accompanied by a young girl. The character serves as a companion who is with you throughout the game and is key to the story. We can also confirm that players looking to play with friends are in luck, as the game is going to support up to 3-player multiplayer. Furthermore, because the game is free-to-play, it is going to be receiving post-launch updates that add more emissaries and locations, further the narrative, and much more.
From unforgiving bosses to dark and dangerous locations, players are in for a treat with Ballad of Antara. Fans of the Dark Souls series may also be inclined to give it a try, especially with its similarities in tone and gameplay. As the dev team is still hard at work on the game, we don’t know much else about it currently. It is expected to be released in 2025, with more details coming later in the year.
