Concord Branded Dead On Arrival As Its Player Counts Hit a New Low

Player counts for both Concord Betas were incredibly low on PC, sparking a wave of negativity towards the game.

Concord, developed by Firewalk Studios, has not received the kindest press since its initial reveal. The hero shooter’s reception has been lukewarm, to say the least, with the game’s cinematic reveal trailer getting a staggering 33,000 dislikes. It was left up to Concord’s Betas to prove to players that it had more to offer than it seemed. However, based on the player counts, it doesn’t seem like it worked.

Concord’s Player Counts Are Abysmally Low

Concord’s concurrent player count during its various Betas never hit over 2,500 on PC. This is incredibly shocking, especially considering the pedigree and marketing budget behind this once hotly-anticipated title. According to SteamDB, during the game’s Beta period, Concord typically averaged around 300 to 400 players, with its all-time peak reaching just 2,388 people.

Of course, this doesn’t take into account those playing on PS5, who are likely the majority of players. After all, in a last-minute switch, Sony allowed anyone with a PS+ subscription to take part in the initial Closed Beta. However, it’s hard to imagine that the numbers on PlayStation 5 are significantly higher. Concord’s reception has been divisive, to say the least, and queue times have been excruciatingly long. This is despite the inclusion of crossplay, which should have drastically reduced queue times for players who enabled it.

It remains to be seen what Firewalk Studios opt to do after the discouraging player counts across the two Betas. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Concord delayed for a month or longer in order to fine-tune the many issues and continue pumping out marketing to rebuild hype. Now that the Beta period is over, we suspect we’ll be hearing something soon. What did you think of Concord’s Beta? Did you try it out?
