Arrowhead Game Studios is upgrading Helldivers 2 with its Escalation of Freedom Update, and it’s coming sooner than you think.

Helldivers 2’s player base has ballooned since launch, with hundreds of thousands of players answering Super Earth’s call to arms. Now, six months since Helldivers 2’s launch, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has announced the new Escalation of Freedom Update. It’s packed with brilliant content players can get excited about. Below, we discuss everything you need to know about the upcoming update.

Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Update Release Date

The Escalation of Freedom Update is due to be released on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. It will, like all previous updates, be completely free for all players. Additionally, it will roll out on PC and PlayStation 5 simultaneously.

Everything Coming in the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Update

Helldivers 2 will be getting a whole new Combat Rating in the Escalation of Freedom update. This will bring the number of increasingly difficult levels to 10. This 10th level will be incredibly difficult, almost impossibly so, with lots of enemies to contend with. Of course, with high risk, there is always a high reward.

Additionally, there will be more mission variants. This includes new mission objectives, larger, more fortified enemy outposts for both bots and bugs, and brand-new Super Sample rewards. These new challenges will require players to coordinate together and create strategies in order to take down these high leveled outposts. It should be noted that these new mission objectives are not only for Helldiver 2’s new level ten Combat Rating. They will also be available in other difficulties, allowing everyone to enjoy them.

All New Enemies Coming in the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Update

Brand-new and beloved enemies are also coming in the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update, such as the much-loved Impaler from the previous game. The Impaler is a huge enemy that shoots its giant tentacles out of the ground to attack you as you flee. Players will need to work together to take it down. Additionally, the Spore Charger is also coming in the Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom update. It is constantly surrounded by fog, making it hard to spot as it sneaks up on you. Finally, a new Terminid Alpha Commander is also joining in on the fun, which is a supercharged Brood Commander that will call other bugs for backup.

Although that might be all for bugs, the Automaton’s ranks are growing with the addition of the formidable Rocket Tank, which will blast players from afar. Additionally, a new biome is being added in the form of Swamps. These are enhanced versions of what is currently accessible in the game and are full of fog, untamable flora, and blackened trees. They will feel tense to fight in, with the atmosphere feeling just a little haunted. Anything could be hiding, so players better keep their flashlights close.

Helldivers 2 Escalation of Freedom Update Introduces Grief Kicking Fixes

Not only will players enjoy this brand-new update with fellow divers, but this upcoming update will help mitigate grief kicking in Helldivers 2. A new system has been implemented that makes it so that if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all of the team’s loot from the previous session. All items will be available to be picked up before extraction. On the other side, the squad that kicked said player will see a message in chat that a player has been kicked, yet their loot remains unchanged.

This new approach allows all players involved to leave with all the loot collected on missions, with no one missing out. During this update, there will also be a selection of quality-of-life fixes, including major fixes to the social menu, ultimately making friending other people easier.
