Ubisoft Unveil Far Cry 6 Gameplay & Release Date

Ubisoft released a gameplay showcase for their upcoming title Far Cry 6 and revealed its release date as this October.

Less than a day after Sony Interactive Entertainment released a gameplay showcase for Horizon Forbidden West, Ubisoft released their own for Far Cry 6. Long-anticipated and hyped by fans all across the world, Far Cry 6 is the, unsurprisingly, 6th mainline instalment in the Far Cry franchise. Following on from the cult-filled setting of Far Cry 5, Far Cry 6 sets players in Yara, an “island frozen in time”. The gameplay reveal offered players a lot of interesting details about the upcoming game’s open-world, gameplay and story.

What Was Shown?

The showcase introduced us to the protagonist of Far Cry 6, Dani Rojas who can be either male or female. They are the “match” to spark the revolution forward and take down the nefarious leader, Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito. We get to see some explosive first-person gameplay, character customisation and are introduced to some key players like Juan Cortez. We even get to see some of the guerrilla fighting mechanics. These included backpacks that look like they pack a punch and some pretty unique sounding weapons. There are weapons using sardine cans, batteries, motorcycle engines, and even one that shoots CDs playing Macarena. Pretty nifty.

Possibly the highlight of the show was the introduction of your canine companion who was briefly shown off at the end. Hopefully, he can hop into our car with us, or somehow ride on the back of our horse. We’ll see. Finally, at the very end of the show, Far Cry 6’s release date was announced. It is now officially launching on October 7th 2021.
