The Game Crater’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of October

Each month, The Game Crater staff gather in our very real and very spooky ritual circle to chant and mutter creepy words. Those words tend to be “Halloween”, “When is Cyberpunk going to be fixed“, “More people should listen to our podcast” and “Here are our most anticipated games of October”. Sure, it’s a little weird, but we have fun and it gets the whole team bonding.

October, as spoooooky of a month as it is, happens to have some genuinely great games lined up. In fact, there are so many great – and horrifyingly terrifying – games coming out this month that our regularly scheduled chanting just got a little louder. So, join us in chanting about the wonderful games coming out this October that we’re bubbling with anticipation for.

Alan Wake Remastered – October 5th

What better to kick off the scariest month of the year than the return of a horror classic: Alan Wake Remastered. For fans of the original, its announcement a few weeks back likely felt like a miracle. It certainly did to us. However, those who have no idea what everyone is getting so worked up about, well, we envy you. To experience Alan Wake all over again, especially now that it’s on PlayStation for the first time, would be amazing. So, for all you newcomers to the series, have fun!

Far Cry 6 – October 7th

It is hard to not be excited for Far Cry 6, especially considering how it has appeared in practically every major gaming event over the past few months. Exploring this vast and beautiful world with makeshift weapons and rocket backpacks is bound to be fun. Even if it still sticks to the usual Ubisoft formula, we’re sure we’ll still enjoy it. Besides, we simply can’t wait to have that adorable dog as a companion. Or the alligator. Either one will do.

Far Cry 6 is coming this October 7th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Metroid Dread – October 8th

The announcement that the first 2Dish Metroid game to release in 19 years will finally come to Switch was likely music to long-time fan’s ears. Personally, we have plenty of old-school Nintendo fans amongst us who are more than excited for the release of Metroid Dread. But even those of us who never had the chance to try the older titles are still ready to go. We can’t help but feel amped up whenever a trailer for Metroid Dread gets showcased. So, imagine how it’ll feel to actually play the game.

Back 4 Blood – October 12th

We fortunately had the opportunity to try out Back 4 Blood during the Open Beta. You can check out our opinions on it here. While the Open Beta left a little to be desired, we still have high hopes for this exceptional looking Left 4 Dead-style game. It’s been a while since blasting through hoardes of zombie enimes has been even remotely satisfying. However, Back 4 Blood seems set to restore our faith in the genre and give us that wonderfully visceral experience in droves. It’s also another great game to play this Halloween. So, in keeping with this month’s spoooooky theme, we’ll be sure to play it in the dark with all the lights out. We swear.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles – October 13th

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles – henceforth referred to as Demon Slayer as it’s far too long a title – is shaping up to be a pretty phenomenal and faithful adaptation of the legendary anime. While fans of the series are likely already excited, those who’ve never seen an episode before needn’t worry. The game intends to cover all the important details from the series, so newcomers won’t be lost. Demon Slayer is an action-packed fighting game that will likely offer players some incredible thrills. We simply can’t wait for it to come out.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House Of Ashes – October 22nd

What is it with October and titles with incredibly long names? Well, The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes – which I refuse to type out anymore so will henceforth be referred to as House of Ashes – is the next game in the Dark Pictures Anthology series. It looks set to give us all a very good fright. If the reputation of Little Big Planet and Until Dawn developer, Supermassive Games, is anything to go by, House of Ashes is bound to be brilliant.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House Of Ashes is coming this October 22nd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Solar Ash – October 26th

Everything about Solar Ash, from its visual style, soundtrack and gameplay appeals to us. It’s frantic fast-paced platforming across visually stunning vistas looks set to engross us for its entire run time. While it certainly borrows from the best out there, Solar Ash still maintains a beautiful sense of individuality. It is by far one of the more unique titles on this list. For those looking for a solid indie reccomendation amongst all the triple-A titles launching over the next few months, Solar Ash is one of the best you can pick up.

Solar Ash is leaping onto PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC this October 26th.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – October 26th

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy looks like a return to form for the Marvel video game series under Square Enix. After the somewhat lukewarm disaster that was Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy looks set to be a step in the right direction. It features a fun and eclectic cast of characters, a narrative packed full of fantastic references – we’re looking at you Cosmo the Dog – and solid third-person gameplay. This could very well be the next best Marvel video game.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is launching this October 26th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (Cloud Version) and PC.

Age of Empires IV – October 28th

Age of Empires IV is shaping up to be familiar yet incredibly enjoyable nevertheless. This RTS is bringing back the classic series in a big way. It will feature a ton of improvements and swanky new graphics. While we appreciate not everyone out there is a massive real-time-strategy fan, the Age of Empires series is one of the most accessible, and definetly a good place to start for newcomers. Age of Empires IV is set to keep up preoccupied for quite some time, and frankly we have no idea how we’ll make time for all the other games in our list.

Age of Empires IV is launching on October 28th for PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Mario Party Superstars – October 29th

Mario Party Superstars is quitely literally set to bring the series back to its roots. Comprised of entirely old boards and mini-games, just remade with Nintendo’s fancy new visuals, Mario Party Superstars is hoping to take advantage of our nostalgia for bygone games. Honestly, it’s working. While Nintendo doesn’t have the best track record with its plethora of remakes, Mario Party Superstars still looks fun. Its small segment in the most recent Nintendo Direct showed off the various boards and mini-games coming to the title. It’s definetly worth a watch, especially if this appeals to you too.
