The Game Crater’s Top 10 Most Anticipated Games For July

If you tuned in to this year’s E3 and Summer Game Fest events then you’re still likely scratching your head and wondering why Far Cry 6 got shown off at practically every single event. You’re also probably still watching that Pupperazzi trailer because it’s so gosh-darn cute. But that’s neither here nor there. What is important is that five hundred too many games got announced, especially with all the hundreds of other directs and whathaveyou’s airing only months before. So, we’re here to make your life a little easier and show off some of our most anticipated games for July. Hopefully, something in this list will catch your interest and keep you going until August.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings Of Ruin – July 9

Monster Hunter Stories 2 is an exciting new edition heading to the Nintendo Switch. For all the indie love the Switch is currently receiving, as well as all the asset flips that plague the platform nearly every day, it’s great to get a triple-A title on there every once in a while. After the staggering success of Monster Hunter Rise, it’ll be great to see if Capcom’s next effort lives up to the expectations set. Sure, it’s a very different game aiming for a very different audience, but if the innovation and dedication shown to their previous Monster Hunter title is anything to go by, then Monster Hunter Stories 2 will surely be a fantastic entry to the franchise.

Where The Heart Leads – July 13

Where the Heart Leads is a narrative-driven adventure title that caught our collective attention when it was first revealed. Its surreal world and abstract visuals make for an aesthetically pleasing video game. That, coupled with the choice-based narrative set against the backdrop of one man’s life, is an incredibly appealing prospect. A time-jumping narrative with relationships and interactions with others at its heart sounds like a promising premise that we simply cannot wait to jump into.

Lost At Sea – July 15

Lost at Sea is a captivatingly beautiful game coming this July in which every environment looks as if it were hand-painted. This stunning exploration of life and death and everything in between will take you through a puzzle-filled adventure title all about memories. It certainly looks like it’ll be another classic in the same vein as What Remains of Edith Finch. We are huge fans of narrative-focused video games, and Lost at Sea seems like it’s attempting to weave a complex yet resonant story within its picturesque world.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – July 16

The staff here at The Game Crater come from all walks of life. Some are diehard Nintendo fans, others, not so much. But, despite our Nintendo-based differences, we’re all excited at a chance to relive a true Nintendo classic in the form of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD. While we’re all waiting for Breath of the Wild 2 and its gorgeous floating islands, we’ll have to satisfy our Zelda cravings with a little blast from the past.

Death’s Door – July 20

Death’s Door caught us off guard at first. Its hauntingly eerie world gave us the chills, but its frantic gameplay kept us on the edge of our seats. This fast-paced isometric hack-and-slash seems like oodles of fun, despite its bleak atmosphere. Exploring this wonderfully fascinating world and uncovering its mysteries is definitely something we’re all for. This charming indie game is also being published by Devolver Digital. So, if it’s got their seal of approval, you can be certain it’ll be a hectic, slightly nightmarish, bundle of pure unadulterated fun.

Death’s Door is making its way to Xbox One, Xbox Series X/ S and PC this July 20th.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles – July 27

We love a good visual novel. When they offer a solid narrative filled with twists and turns coupled with stunning artwork and on occasion phenomenal voice acting, we’re all for it. So, when we heard that a since Japanese-exclusive title in the crème de la crème grandaddy of visual novels franchise, Phoenix Wright, was getting localised for the West, oh boy, we got excited. This is a fantastic looking title in the franchise filled with its trademark sense of humour, intriguing-looking cases and great artwork, as per usual. We cannot wait to get our hands on this and give it a whirl.

Neo: The World Ends With You – July 27

It’s safe to say that the lucky few who played the phenomenal The World Ends With You back on the DS were blown away. It’s even safer to say that those that rediscovered it or even discovered it on the Nintendo Switch, many years later, loved it even more. Now, the next game in the series is upon us, and, boy oh boy, are we ready. Neo: The World Ends With You is as stylish as you’d expect from a game in this series and packed full of wonderful details. We cannot wait to get our hands on this and experience it first-hand if only to revel in the game’s stunning world.

Neo: The World Ends With You is launching for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC this July 27th.

Tribes of Midgard – July 27

For almost all of these games, save those that are remakes, we can only really base our anticipation off of looks. And while plenty of titles that have featured in this very article are beautiful and incredibly stylish, they do not hold a candle to the gorgeous aesthetic of Tribes of Midgard. This ambitious title, with its vast procedurally generated lands to explore and hulking titans to defeat, seems to be offering an experience unlike any other. We’ve been hyped for this one ever since it was announced and cannot wait to try the full release.

Tribes of Midgard is coming to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PC this July 27th.

Project Warlock II – July 29

The gruesome gorefest that is Project Warlock II has to be the slickest and sickliest title on this list. From its hyper-stylised and visceral visual style to its frantic first-person spell-infused combat, Project Warlock II stuns and stimulates all at once. It looks like it’s going to be one hell of a ride, and if it’s even half as good as its predecessor, then it’ll be a truly phenomenal game. This is definitely one to look out for, especially if you’re a fan of classic Doom.

Project Warlock II is releasing for PC this July 29th.

The Ascent – July 29

Last, but certainly not least, is The Ascent. This neon-drenched cyberpunk top-down shooter looks to be the flashiest title on this list. With Cyberpunk 2077 out of the way and the experimental Scarlet Nexus finishing its rounds, The Ascent seems hellbent on becoming the next top dog when it comes to Cyberpunk games. Its lavish and overly detailed cyberpunk worlds are hard to not gawk at. Its fast-paced, fluid and fun combat will certainly wreak havoc on our backlog as we burn through this exceptionally brilliant looking title first.
