To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the free MMORPG, Runescape, Jagex has brought back the Party Hat after being unavailable to earn in-game for the past 20 years.
The Golden Party Hat Hunt allows Runescape players one chance to a gold version of the party hat in this limited-time event. After that, this item will never be available to earn again. The event will run from now until January 3, 2022.
Party Hat Origins
The original Party Hat was used in Runescape’s 2001 Christmas event and was used as a festive cosmetic that didn’t provide any stat bonuses or defensive properties. Those who held onto the Party Hat rejoiced as it became a rare commodity and a status symbol for players.
In 2015, the price of a Party Hat was worth a whopping 2.1 billion gold, the maximum trade value for any single transaction. Since then, the Party Hat has played an essential role in shaping the game’s player-driven economy.
In order to snag the Golden Party Hat, players will have to collect eight golden shards to combine it into the Golden Party Hat. Each player can only have one hat. The Grand Exchange has also been transformed to fit the theme of this wonderland celebration event.
