Re:Zero: Starting Life in Another World: S2E01 – Mini Review

Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World is about a boy named Subaru Natsuki who is stuck in a strange fantasy world. He has the ability to return to a specific point in time whenever he dies, replaying the same events on repeat. Season 2 picks up where the first season finished.

Shortly after defeating the threat of the White Whale and the Witch Cult’s Sin Archbishop representing sloth. Subaru is reunited with his beloved Emilia, except he quickly realises that Rem has been erased from this world. In this episode, he tries to use his abilities to save Rem from having her memories and personality wiped but it fails to work. He must now move forward without her help for the time being.

Positives

Re: Zero is back at it again. There was a lot to unpack here. The way they showed Subaru’s plan not working was well handled. The introduction of Greed and Gluttony was faultless. The show hasn’t skipped a beat going from one season to the next and it’s better off for it.

Negatives

Gluttony really got on my nerves, except I guess that is part of the point. Having Rem taken out this early was a bit of a disappointment and hopefully, she will be back soon. A bit sad we didn’t get a new opening, but that just makes me more excited for next week.

Summary

Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World is back and it’s not pulling any punches. All our favourites are here and the suffering has only just begun. In such a crowded isekai market, it is nice to see such a stark contrast of quality make its triumphant return. All good things so far so let’s hope it keeps this up.

I plan to watch the first episode of every new show that is coming out this season. If you want to know what to watch, and what to stay away from, follow this series.
