New Pokémon Legends: Arceus Details Announced

During today’s Pokémon Presents, The Pokémon Company revealed a brand new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus and a slew of new details.

When Pokémon Legends: Arceus was announced back in February, fans were rather disappointed. The trailer didn’t showcase a lot of what the game had to offer. Instead, it kept a lot of details in the dark, including just exactly what you’ll be doing. Fortunately, after rumours that The Pokémon Company would be revealing new details soon, today’s Pokémon Present showcased everything we could possibly want to know.

You can watch the new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Arceus here.

What Was Announced?

Narrative

The first thing that was revealed was the name of the region and important story details. So, here is a breakdown of everything narrative related:

  • The region you’ll be exploring is called the Hisui Region. This is what we now know as the Sinnoh region, present in the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games
  • You’ll be able to explore a hub world called Jubilife Village. We saw a little bit of this in the inital reveal, but the new trailer went into more detail. For example it is home to the Galaxy Expedition Team
  • Your role in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is as a member of the Galaxy Expedition Team. It is your job to research all of the Pokemon present in the Hisui Region
  • There are several central characters that you’ll meet and converse with over the course of your journey. These include Professor Laventon who studies the ecology of Pokémon, Captain Cyllene who is the leader of the Survey Core and Commander Kamado who oversees the entire Galaxy Team

Exploration

The trailer also detailed what missions would entail and just exactly what you’ll be doing as you explore the world. Here is a breakdown of that:

  • You’ll embark on “Survey Missions” which will see you explore open areas. You’ll target each region, which is diverse in its visual style, and collect data for your Pokédex from each one
  • Before exploring you’ll have to prepare at a base camp. Here you can buy or craft items to help aid you on your endeavours
  • While you’re out exploring you’ll have to be careful as you’ll be vulnerable to wild Pokémon attacks. We briefly saw that something has possessed the wild Pokémon and made them more aggressive. Should you take too many hits, you’ll black out
  • You will have the opportunity to catch new Pokémon as well as initate battles with wild ones
  • It would appear that you can fly, ride and surf on your Pokémon around each enviroment

Battles

The next part of the trailer showcased more details surrounding the turn-based battles against wild Pokémon. There are some interesting details here, including new mechanics that seem to shake it up. Here is a breakdown of that:

  • To initate a battle with a wild Pokémon you’ll have to throw one of your Poké Balls near them
  • Unlike in previous titles, the order of battle is a little different. Your Pokémon will be able to make multiple moves conceutivley before your opponent can act. This obviously applies to your opponent too. How many moves you’re able to make depends on your action speed
  • You will be able to use different styles in battle which will greatly alter how you play. The “Strong Style” will increase your power, but reduces your action speed. The “Agile Style” increases your action speed but reduces your power

Pokédex & New Pokémon

The Pokédex has seemingly been revamped with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This makes sense as the game seems to be more focused on its completion. We also got a look at some new Pokémon making their debut as well as some reimagined Pokémon. Here are the details on that:

  • The Pokédex is far more in depth and seems to require a lot more from the player. As per usual, discovering a new Pokémon will add them to the Pokédex.
  • However, there are additional objectives to complete for each one. For example, seeing a Pokémon use a certain move repeatedly may tick off that objective. It isn’t clear if these are optional or not.
  • Several new Pokémon were announced. These include Wyrdeer who is an evolution of Stantler. The other new Pokémon announced was Basculegion who is an evolution of Basculin. Both are unique to the Hisui region. It isn’t clear if there are additional new Pokémon coming.
  • A few Pokémon have been redesigned to be more inline with the Fuedal Japan aestehtic. These include the Hisuian Braviary and the Hisuian Growlithe. Again, it is unclear as to whether there will be other Pokémon that receive similiar redesigns.
